History of the Charlotte Hornets

90s - The Hive

The Hornets franchise began in 1988 and they experienced the usual lack of success expected in an expansion team. Their first playoff appearance came under the big 3 of Muggsy Bouges, Larry Johnson, and Alonzo Mourning. The trio was dismantled in 1998 after 4 playoff appearances in 6 years.

00s - Change of Scenery

In 2002 the franchise was moved to New Orleans and Charlotte wouldn’t get a new team until 2004. Here they had to start over as the Bobcats with new players, coaches, and management. The franchise struggled to land players in free agency or draft notable players which led to only one playoff appearance in their first 9 years.

10s - Making History…

The Charlotte Bobcats made history by having the least amount of wins in a season in 2012. The fact that the NBA had a short season due to a holdout didn’t help, but they were still the laughing stock of the league. In 2015 the team switched names once again back to the Charlotte Hornets once New Orleans became the Pelicans.
